Brain Food Wednesdays: Why Great Thinkers Read Outside Their Lane

Dear Reader,

Welcome to another edition of Brain Food Wednesdays, your weekly intellectual feast. In this edition, issue 264, I talk about reading outside your specialty.

In a world that's speeding up, expert knowledge is essential, but not enough. The innovators and evolvers who stay ahead aren't just reading books in their field. They're reading outside of it.

A business strategist learning about design. A marketer reading about space travel. Or a CEO studying philosophy. This kind of cross-disciplinary reading is not a detour. It's an upgrade to your mind.

Books like The Innovation Stack show how innovative systems are built by solving one problem at a time. But when you read something like Cosmos (it's in my reading stack, yes), you see those "innovation stacks" as being part of a much larger pattern. Everything is interconnected.

Strategic reading isn't checking off titles. It's feeding your thinking with unexpected input. That's how you become a better problem solver, leader, and decision maker.

At the Art of Learning Leadership Academy, I created Bookish Notes not just to summarize, but to provide readers with an action toolkit. Members learn how to extract insights and apply them, whether they're building teams or redesigning systems.

If you’re looking for your next business breakthrough, don’t just read more, read differently.

Brain Food Tip: This week, pick one book outside your usual genre. Bonus points if it has nothing to do with your industry.

Let your curiosity lead your strategy.

If you found this newsletter valuable, please support me by sharing it with others who love to learn!

Stay tuned for more Brain Food next Wednesday!

Warm regards,

Avil Beckford
