BFW-The Two-Tool Sprint: Turn Lessons into Output (Issue 272)

Dear Reader,

Less tooling, more shipping—40 focused minutes.

We don’t need more dashboards. We need more done. After a dense AI workshop, I made one shift that unlocked momentum: instead of “try everything,” I ran a Two-Tool Sprint. I chose two tools, applied them to one outcome, and shipped the smallest useful version today.

The Sprint (5 moves)

  1. Name the outcome. One concrete win for this week.

  2. Pick two tools. Only those that directly move that outcome.

  3. Block 40 minutes. 20 per tool. No tabs, no tinkering.

  4. Ship v0. Done > perfect.

  5. Debrief in one line. “What worked? What’s next?”

Why it sticks

  • Repetition builds fluency. Using the same tools daily turns buttons into muscle memory.

  • Action clarifies needs. Doing reveals which prompt, field, or step actually matters.

  • Small wins stack. Visible progress beats occasional heroic pushes.

Field Note (customize the lesson)

Workshop goal: build a presentation. My goal: ship a sales page.
Insight → Action → When → Evidence

  • Insight: instructor’s prompt pack for structuring arguments.

  • Action (today): Tool 1 adapts the argument prompt → draft value prop (25m). Tool 2 transforms my notes → offer outline (15m).

  • When: One 40-minute sprint.

  • Evidence: Value prop locked; 9-point outline ready to refine.
Takeaway: Don’t copy the template—translate it to your context.

Bold truth: The magic isn’t in the tool. It’s in today’s 40 focused minutes.

Dear Reader, I see it constantly. Someone launches a new initiative, tries it for a few weeks, sees no traction, and declares it a failure. But here's what neuroscience tells us. Your brain needs time to build new neural pathways. Real skill development doesn't happen in days or even weeks. It happens when you push past the discomfort of being a beginner. Think about the last time you abandoned something new. Was it actually not working? Or did you quit right before the compounding effect...

Dear Reader, I’ve been working on PhotoReading and Quantum Jumping for quite some time now. Both fascinate me because they promise to expand what we think learning and perception can do. But despite my enthusiasm, they haven’t quite “clicked.” I’ve read the materials, watched the lessons, practiced, and even explained Quantum Jumping to others who picked it up quickly. So why hasn’t it landed for me? I suspect it’s because I’ve been trying too hard. When we push for mastery, we sometimes...

Dear Reader, This week’s Brain Food Wednesdays breaks down a simple equation for valuing ideas so you can focus on execution that actually compounds results. Most people overvalue ideas and undervalue execution. As Derek Sivers explains in Anything You Want, the two form an equation: Awful idea = –1 Weak idea = 1 So-so idea = 5 Good idea = 10 Great idea = 15 Brilliant idea = 20 No execution = $1 Weak execution = $1,000 So-so execution = $10,000 Good execution = $100,000 Great execution =...
